Drinkfield Waste Transfer Station, Darlington will reopen for business on Tuesday 27th August 2024 following its closure due to a fire in June 2024. The Transfer Station is part of our Durham & Tees Valley region and provides waste disposal services to the Local Authority & Traders as well as accepting waste from the neighbouring Civic Amenity Site (which the group also manages on behalf of Darlington Borough Council). The fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery, and highlights the risks associated with such items and the need for careful disposal by our customers. The group has installed state of the art fire detection systems including the use of thermal imaging cameras (both mobile and static) together with a sophisticated fire alarm system and lithex fire extinguishers. These measures, which required a significant investment in infrastructure, ensures that the site is probably one of the most technologically advanced and monitored waste management facilities in the North. We look forward to welcoming customers old and new back to our improved facilities, which are now fully branded to reflect Ashcourt Group. The site is open for business from 7.00am until 5.00pm Monday to Friday and 7.00am till 12 Noon Saturdays (Closed Sunday & Bank Holidays). The fire provided challenges to the fire brigade and it was testament to the hard work and infrastructure available within the group that it was able to be extinguished quickly. Our employees worked tirelessly to ensure that damage was as limited as possible. Many thanks to the local team and also everyone in the group who has worked so hard to ensure that the site has been able to re-open in a timely manner. Finally, many thanks to our customers for your patience and support – We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday!
