Project Description

Constructed volumetrically off site in Peterlee from light gauge structural steel and incorporating our factory made unique kitchen & bathroom unit with all mechanical & electrical workings we set out to produce our most efficient development to date. Our aim was to produce a development that was so energy efficient that it negated the requirement to incorporate renewable technologies. In addition, we wanted to avoid the institutionalised feel of some student accommodation schemes by carefully considering the exterior finishes. The internal layout of the rooms has been individually styled with a bias towards style, quality and longevity. In addition, we wanted to greater enhance the student experience by including on site large common rooms, a gym, a cinema / music room, linked shared external common spaces including BBQ areas.

Ashcourt opted to use modern methods of construction when undertaking the Chapel Heights project. Such methods made use of a combination of timber frame for the three smaller buildings and volumetric light gauge structural steel for the two larger buildings. Much time was spent developing innovative storage solutions, drawing on our experience in the residential building sector. The rooms were ultimately completed to convey a young and vibrant feel providing the perfect place for students to call home during their time at university. This scheme achieved BREEAM Very Good rating, with an air tight rating of 3m3/m2@50Pa.
