Ashcourt Lincolnshire have taken delivery of aggregates that arrived on a train transported from Swinden Limestone. The train delivered 1,440 tonnes of Swinden 20/4mm and 10/4mm Limestone which was offloaded by a material handler using a clamshell bucket from 24 carriages and put straight into our artic and tipper wagons. Every 1,500 tonnes of aggregate (one train with 24 carriages) delivered into Grimsby via train saves us approx. 5,000 road miles. This in turn frees up more of the fleet to complete the supply and delivery of our own building materials locally, also eliminating the need to hire in sub-contractor haulage. Delivery by train is seen to be more carbon friendly and a plus from blue chip customers when tendering for bigger projects. We currently take delivery of one train per week to feed Grimsby concrete plant with Swinden Limestone. Benefits of using the Swinden limestone in our ready-mix concrete include reduced input costs (15%) and long-term reduction in minimum cement contents due to its natural cementitious values in comparison to conventional gravel.
